Chicken Feed Calculator
Estimate how much complete feed your flock may use, how many bags to buy, and an optional feed budget. Use it for chicks, growing pullets or laying hens.
What the calculator assumes
Uses 45 g per bird per day as a broad purchasing average across a period where intake rises quickly. Starter feed is generally used during roughly the first 6β8 weeks.
Uses 75 g per bird per day as a planning estimate for growing birds. Use a grower/developer ration appropriate to your feed label and flock.
Uses 130 g per bird per dayβwithin extension guidance of roughly ΒΌββ lb daily for an average laying hen.
The chick and pullet figures are broad purchasing estimates, not feeding prescriptions. Consumption changes with breed, body size, age, weather, production, forage, feed formulation and feeder waste. Offer an appropriate complete ration and follow the feed manufacturer's directions.
Buy enough without treating the estimate as a ration.
Extension guidance for laying flocks recommends keeping complete feed available rather than restricting hens to a calculator-derived daily portion.
Correct feeder height and sensible fill levels can reduce scratching and spillage. The optional loss allowance is for purchasing, not extra nutrition.
Keep clean, fresh water continuously available. Feed consumption and bird performance are closely tied to adequate water access.
